It may look like an average Kootenay cottage, but

It may look like an average Kootenay cottage, but this is actually the Nikkei Internment Memorial Centre National Historic Site in New Denver where over 1,500 Japanese Canadians were interned during World War 2. By 1942 they had built 275 shacks like this one in a fruit grove known as the “Orchard" and the Memorial Centre is now located in the heart of the Orchard.

Kootenay author Terry Nelson has spent years catal

Kootenay author Terry Nelson has spent years cataloging some of the biggest trees in the BC interior and recently published the book "Big Trees of the Inland Temperate Forest of British Columbia." In it you'll find this photo of a stand of ancient cedar near Terry's home in Fernie.

We spoke with Terry about his project and where else you can find giant sentinels that have been on this earth for over 1,000 years.
